Title

Kintsugi in the cycle of nature - a meditation on Japanese lacquer arts (Urushi Washi Ver.)

Introduction

Focusing on the work of lacquer artist Mio Heki, this book explores craftsmanship, traditional arts, kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum), and the connection between nature and humans, with a particular emphasis on kintsugi. In the second half, it provides detailed explanations of kintsugi techniques, the characteristics of lacquer, and the tools and materials used, for those interested in learning more about kintsugi and lacquer. The binding is a beautifully crafted Japanese-style bookbinding, with each copy hand-finished by artisans in Kyoto. Furthermore, the cover features a limited edition of hand-crafted Kurotani washi (Japanese paper), on which Mio Heki has applied lacquer by hand, creating a unique expression and making it a special edition.
